Interior Design Blog: Top Tips for any home
Here it is Interior Design blog three, top tips for any home. OK, so it’s never a one size fits all, even when that’s what it says on the label – it’s never 100% true. I mean, even a scarf, OK so it will hang around your neck loosely, as long as you have a neck but what if you want to wear it as a head scarf? Will it fit then? What if you want to arrange it in a draped effect around your shoulders? Well you may end up looking for something else completely. And, whilst all this is very true, there are some basics, some rudiments and foundations, it may help to follow when considering the next project in your home.
Always bear in mind the best way to get anything done is to do it yourself! Up your interior game with these 5 essential tips to remember…
The Moon in the day time
Where all good design starts, light! Lighting can literally transform an area. Take it a awkward, unusable space and transform it with a good lamp, or even just a different light bulb! Retailers have made the lighting game easy and really brought the goods to us the last few years, from hanging pendant lights, floor lamps and actually fresh wall lights! In these recent times, you often don’t even need a socket or existing light to add some shine – a battery does the trick!
I’ve put together a small selection of some of our favourite quirky lights currently available below.
The Surprise of Texture
Your key card and don’t ever be afraid to use it! Texture forms the way an object or even room can make you feel, not to touch but really feel, inside! Texture can bring a full new definition or meaning to something which you may not have considered before and there is so much to choose from. Whilst velvet has been trendy for a while now, start to consider suedes. Small discreet changes can really make a huge difference.
The Norm? Nah!
Wallpaper is for walls, fabric is for furniture and rugs are for the floor… what if I told you, that’s simply not true! Designed for these purposes sure! But some creative thinking has really widened the scope of so many products, be brave and get experimenting! Below are some recent projects we’ve fallen in love with where the ordinary is so much more!
Storage is Key
Personally I am a huge fan of bold and brave design, I wouldn’t go as far as to say ‘busy’ but definitely personal. I also understand and cling to the need for organisation, a place for everything although not always putting and everything in it’s place! The most fun part of our jobs when designing the homes is coming up with new storage ideas for our customers; you can read all about that here. Having perfect storage solutions immediately relieves clutter, stress and makes for a much better space! Even if you concentrate on a corner at a time, it’s so important to design the area around it’s use as well as what looks nice!
Be Unapologetically You
Whilst it can be such a cliche to hear, if you are designing a room, space or even shelf for you – do you! Make sure it reflects you & personality and works. If you have to force yourself or talk yourself into liking something, the chances are it’s wrong. Design is subjective, what works for one isn’t necessarily what works for another and that is absolutely fine! There’s Zero Judgement in the world of Creativity, so go there!
