I love my home, just as much as the next person! It’s my sanctuary and the only place in the world I feel safe and happy HOWEVER… we have all spent so much time there, it’s becoming a bit of a drag! So you don’t have to, we’ve searched high and low for ideas to freshen up your home and make you smile!
Introduce a new scent
We all know lavender aids sleep, it’s calming and also has properties that treat headaches & sooth the nervous system. Lavender can help clear the mind and clarify thoughts, it’s also relatively easy to bring into the house! Treat yourself to a Lavender plant, ensure it’s adequately potted and has lots of sunlight. The Bedroom is a great place to let this plant grow.
The scent of Lemon is actually proven to promote happiness, we could always do with some more of that! This scent promotes concentration and has calming and clarifying properties that are helpful when you’re feeling angry, anxious or run down. With it’s great antiviral & antibacterial properties, lemon works well in bathrooms & kitchens.
And, whilst not exactly a new technique, a recently resurfaced idea from Reddit user Mari1aAW who recommends hanging eucalyptus in the shower for an amazing scent and much more. Eucalyptus has shown to help relieve congestion, and as w recently learnt – is often the active ingredient in over-the-counter chest rubs. The steam of the shower releases the oils of the eucalyptus! Actual Plant Power
It’s true, we promise! Plants make you smile- just give it a try! Real studies, that we 100% have not made up prove plants can increase creativity, improve moods and reduce stress! Remember, they also clean indoor air by absorbing toxins and producing oxygen. By bringing colour and life to any area, we cannot recommend an indoor plant enough to make you happy!
Not good with the maintenance – no problem! Invest in a hardy plant that doesn’t require a lot of work. Think Succulents, Evergreen plants and maybe even Ferns. Do your research and find a plant that not only looks great but suits your lifestyle and the place you will position it!
Decide on your happy place
Find a spot in your home that you can transform into your own. This could be a window bay, a room or even a corner which is your happy place! Somewhere purely set aside for you to use to get away from your usual world!
Create a place which is warm and inviting with the use of soft tones and fluffy cushions – this will become the place you are drawn to when you need some you time or just a happiness boost. It doesn’t matter what your thing is, but we’ve all got a thing – whether it’s reading, doing yoga, or just watching some Netflix drama, this is the place you need!
Embrace Colour
Colours can have a strong effect on your mood. A lack of colour can make us feel washed out and uninspired, too much colour can intimidate and cause chaos in our minds! Don’t be afraid to play with hues and tones. Find colours that make you smile! Trends come and go and your taste can change in an instant so you really have nothing to loose.
Bear in mind, some colours are suited better to different places. Blue is a great colour for a bedroom as it evokes the ocean and the sky, inducing a feeling of freshness and calm.
Green makes us feel fresh and renewed! It evokes thoughts of nature and growth. It naturally imbues the room with a calming atmosphere, especially if it is blended with wooden tones. To learn more, or find out about your favourite colour click here.
