Staycation Boom

Staycations in recent years since the Pandemic have seen a significant boom, but it looks like they’re here to stay! British holidaymakers in the Staycation Market Report in 2021, stated that 53% intend to holiday in the UK in 2022. It would’ve been thought that with restrictions people would be looking to go abroad again for their holidays. However, over 35% of people in a survey by Travelzoo, showed that people are looking to book three to four UK holidays in 2022. Yet further Skyes Holiday Cottages revealed that bookings have been up 22% compared to 2020 and a staggering 158% from the same period last year. Therefore, supporting that there has been a significant change in the mindset of British holidays and a shaking of the stigma of them being inferior to holidays abroad.

Why is it so popular?

It’s easy to see why, with international flights still facing a certain amount of uncertainty, with additional paperwork and red tape for certain destinations. Staycations allow for a holiday with less stress and allow for more security without a great deal of preparation. Via not having to sort flights, insurance, parking, sorting animal care (because you can take them with you), and spending money means that not only are they less stress, but they often come at a lower cost than that of an international holiday.
