Here at Pathfinder Homes, we are all about the space & storage solutions! Whilst our biggest buildings go up to 65ft, we are always challenging our design team to initiate new, and reinvent old spaces to be used more effectively and provide storage solutions to fit with modern day living.
Whilst our team are on lock down and our Head of Creative is spending most of her time wondering through Pinterest, we’ve asked for her to search the web and her head and put together some top tips & ideas to save and utilise space! This can be applicable not just to our lodges and park homes but may also be helpful to standard bricks & mortar buildings too.
Utility and Clothes
Imagine, having to Iron!? Even worse, having to own an ironing board! Big, clunky and space wasting! OK, whilst I am not a fan, I understand there is a need for the majority to not imagine this prospect but, indeed, face this issue daily! Just like the hoover, opening a cupboard door with an ironing board stored in there could be lethal! Enter – IKEA Fintorp! Originally, and very much appreciated as a towel rail & utensil holder, put this higher up in the cupboard of choice and slip your ironing board behind – voila, perfect to hold back the board and potential injury! This idea actually goes back to 1948, I imagine there was a lot more to iron then!
If you are serious about saving space, where possible, opt for an Open Wardrobe! This is not only ‘on trend’ at the moment but also allows for more creativity on what to hang and where. Also, as it’s open for people to see all the time it will encourage you to keep the contents tidy – see, I said you’d have to be serious! Also, if you are really lucky and are handy with timber or are friendly with a carpenter, you can design your own to fit the space, ensure ample space – check ours out in the Single Tor!
Accessories and things
Ever thought about a ladder, as storage? A really trendy but practical solution that provides a place for you to hang throws, blankets or even your glasses. The storage is movable and therefore can be placed any where with great ease. We found this one in Urban Outfitters but you could even make your own!
Use your corners and use them well! Corners can be tricky to decorate, accentuate and basically use in any helpful way without compromising the overall feeling of the room. A space in need of storage solutions could utilise corners effectively by building some interesting shapes into them. The ones pictured are simple boxes from IKEA but you could use hooks, triangles or even just shelves!
