Local luxury Park Home & Lodge Manufacturer Pathfinder Homes volunteered their Managing Director Bruce MacDonald to be locked up on Friday 31st March all for charity of course! With the target to raise £1,000 before 5pm or banished to the cells forever, Bruce exceeded all expectations and raised £1,600 with donations are still pouring in.
Bruce headed for trial at Rowcroft Hospice’s Rainbow House, charged with the crime of Transporting Haggis south of Hadrians Wall. Bruce was found Guilty and the tough judge condemned his crimes stating ‘you will remain in this building until you have secured sufficient funds to meet your bail of £1,000 or there abouts, ensuring always, that you encourage your partners of crime to give generously to the good works of this establishment’.
Rowcroft Hospice are a local charity committed to providing comfort, support and specialist care to over 2,000 patients and their loved ones across South Devon each year. With strong determination to continue raising the money that funds our work as an independent charity they are running a community event, Jail or Bail. This saw local business people arrested, charged with their crimes (entirely made-up, of course) and then placed on trial. Undoubtedly they will be found guilty of their ‘entirely imaginary crimes’, and taken into custody.
Bruce was put forward by his workforce at Pathfinder Homes. With his rich Scottish heritage & passion for exotic foods, Bruce’s time in the picturesque county of Devon has been an uphill struggle. Battling with his addiction to the savoury pudding, Bruce has been travelling to his home town in the dark of night, purchasing bulk orders of Haggis and smuggling the treat back to his permanent residence.
Although innocently just satisfying his own desires, his vegetarian neighbours are at the end of their tether with the pungent smell and have sought legal advice – They claim ‘This madness simply has to stop’!
Bruce managed to raise his bail money and more with a total of £1,600 (with donations still pouring in). His team at Pathfinder Homes, Suppliers, friends & family all eagerly pulled together to ensure his release.
Images of the big day are available to view on the Pathfinder Homes website and on their Social Media pages, you can even watch the video of the trial! The full amount of funds raised go direct to Rowcroft Hospice to support local people living with life-limiting illnesses to share precious time with family and friends.
